Shadow-of-Sundered-Stars, commonly known in history as the Didact, was a king of the Ghihalian solar-state of Cynane. Born on the capital planet of the same name, Shadow succeeded his father, Vision-of-A-Thousand-Suns, to the throne at the young age of 420 (relative to Ghihalian standards). He spent most of his ruling years on an unceasing military campaign through the Norma and the Scutum-Centaurus Arms of the galaxy, until by the age of 670 he had created one of the largest galaxy spanning empires in history, known as the Ghihalian Ecumene, stretching across a fifth of the entire space of the galaxy. He was undefeated in battle, and is considered by modern historians as one of the greatest military minds and commanders in history.

The Didact was raised and trained by the best military commanders possible from Ghihalian space and, upon his Age of Ascension, was molted into the Warrior caste. Mythologically, he earned the name “Didact” from his teachers, where it was believed that they thought he was so smart with military tactics “he should be teaching them.” When his father was assassinated, he inherited a strong kingdom, an experienced army, and the resource and economic backing of a large portion of the Ghihalian solar-states: the then powerful Cortican League. In 55’045 P.G.E, the Didact invaded the Lenarian Empire, ruled across the Norma Arm, and began a series of campaigns that would last three centuries. He would break the power of the Lenarians in a series of decisive battles, most notably the Battles of Innusa and Zosteros, and would overthrow the Lenarian king, King Nazara III, and conquer the entirety of the Lenarian Empire.

Wishing to conquer the whole galaxy, the Didact continued his campaigns pushing outward towards the Galactic Rim, but was eventually forced to turn back at the cause of lacking supply lines. The Didact died in 54’734 P.G.E. after being poisoned by ill-prepared food, thus spending 18 days in agony before his death. In the centuries following his death, a peace settled over the Ecumene as leaders worked out who would succeed him as ruler. With no living offspring (all of the Didact’s children were killed in battle during the Lenarian Conquest), it was agreed that the right should fall to one of his highest generals, but a general consensus on who it was would never be reached. Following the period of faux peace, the generals would eventually fight amongst each other over control of the Ecumene. An unforeseen result of of this conflict was the creation of the Darkspore Virus by the Ghihalian scientist, hence known as Xylan the Corruptor, which caused the subsequent extinction of the species in the 54th millennium P.G.E.
